Over the years I have developed a few simple rules for travel, and they have served me pretty well. So I’m going to share them with you here:
Travelling and holidaying are not necessarily the same thing. The former can be confronting, tiring, and hectic. The latter is all about relaxing. Make time for both.

A bizarre story on the ABC website today about a pregnant elephant.
Awkward conversation with the parents.
Dad elephant: Great, this is just great. You’re grounded!
Pregnant girl elephant (sarcastically): Oh, that’s great dad, really smart. We’re in a cage stupid.
Dad elephant: I’M stupid? I’m not the one who got pregnant!

I don’t normally just link to other stuff on the web, but tonight is different. I present two pieces of material that I really, really wanted to write about, but after staring at them for a while I realised I couldn’t add anything. I actually couldn’t make sense of either item. Make of it what [...]

Smorgy’s was a Hawaiian all-you-can-eat restaurant that I worked at in the mid-90’s and I’m not afraid to tell you it was a shithole.
The Smorgy’s kitchen was like an exotic sea port, filled with miscreants, outcasts and freaks of all descriptions.
The dishwasher spewed out steam while the customers just spewed. The cockroaches skidded uneasily across [...]

The CIA has admitted publicly to exposing high-profile al-Qaeda detainees, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, to “wakeboarding”. The practice of wakeboarding - dragging a participant behind a speedboat on a wakeboard - is seen by critics as torture, but is viewed by its advocates as a necessary evil to obtain information about possible terrorist acts.
High-profile [...]

Channel 10 has announced it’s line-up of promotional advertisements for 2008, abandoning it’s previous approach of showing actual television shows.
“The response to the summer promotions for our 2008 television shows has been tremendous,” said Tony Kelly, Head of Programming at Channel Ten.
“Obviously 70-80 percent of our programming over the summer has been promotions for shows [...]
